September Prayer Letter- Movements Everywhere

As the we have been on campus for a month now, I am reminded and encouraged by the vision of Campus Crusade for Christ:

“To help build spiritual movements everywhere - so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus.”

What is a spiritual movement you ask? In the words of our President, Steve Douglass, “simply put, spiritual movements occur when God moves in and through people in a supernatural way to win people to Christ, build them in their faith, and send them to the world to reach others for Christ.”

In Houston, it is our team’s desire to see a spiritual movements in every pocket of each and every one of the 35 campuses in the metro area. Our hope is that every Asian-American, every athlete, every Hispanic, every engineer, every greek student would know of a place they can go and hear the Gospel of Christ and be transformed by Him.

As staff members, we step onto campus looking for students who have the desire to see God use them to reach their peers for Christ. We then disciple and equip these student leaders to start a spiritual movements (evangelistic Bible studies, prayer meetings, etc.) in their area of influence.

To the left, I have provided some pictures of a few places we are hoping to launch spiritual movements in Houston this fall. (Above Starting the Impact Movement -African American ministry of CCC-at Sam Houston State University and Left Kathie-Univ. of Houston Jr. who is starting Epic- the Asian American ministry of CCC- this fall) Please join me in praying that God would raise up students in each place that would win others to Christ, build them up in their faith, and send them out to reach others.

Thank you for your faithful support and prayers for this ministry

"They said I was deep!"

"They said I was deep" Isamel excitedly told me as he recounted his first Bible study of the semester. Ismael is a new leader at Houston Community College-Central campus and led his very first Bible study this past Tuesday. Ismael went on to share how his group discussed if Jesus really ever said he was God, from an article on the web http://www.mydestino.com/trutharticle5.html and at times the discussion got heated. But in the end, students left understanding that Jesus is God and Ismael was blessed as he lead. Ismael is one of several students in the Houston area leading an ethnic movement. He leads Destino- a movement specifically focusing on reaching Latino/a students with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Destino's mission is to raise up a generation of leaders from the Hispanic and Latino community to fulfill the Great Commission on the campus, in the community, and throughout the world. We want to reach EVERY student at HCC with the gospel, but are starting with the Hispanics. As Ismael, another crusade staff Jesslyn, and I talked we shared our vision of seeing multiple movements of students in different majors, ethnic groups, and other affinity groups happening on campus so that EVERY student knows someone who truly follows Jesus. Please pray for Ismael as he leads- pray that he'll have wisdom, and that we'll find a few more leaders to share the load with him.
